The waste challenge

Households across the South London Waste Partnership region produce a lot of waste – enough to fill 30,000 collection trucks each year!

The challenge is to collect and treat all of that waste in a safe, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable way.

The future: circular economy and carbon reduction

Recycling is important, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

To tackle climate change, we need to completely redefine our relationship with the things we buy and own. The linear economy we’re accustomed to (buy – use – dispose) must be replaced with a ‘circular economy’. Driving down carbon emissions will become more important than chasing higher recycling rates.
