Recycle at home = No
Rigid plastics cannot currently be recycled using your council’s recycling collection service. This includes:
- Toys
- Garden furniture
- Washing baskets
- Storage boxes
- Buckets
- Cool boxes
- Pet baskets
Recycle out of home = Depends
Rigid plastic items like the ones listed above can be taken to your local council-run Household Reuse and Recycling Centre where you will be asked to put them in a separate area. Recycling markets for these items are not currently well-established. We recycle them whenever possible, but cannot guarantee it.
Waste less…
- Many rigid plastic items that are disposed of could in fact be reused or donated – find your local charity shops on the Charity Retail Association website. Remember – only take donations during opening hours (leaving items outside a closed charity shop is fly-tipping and you could receive a fine)
- Donate your item to the Community Reuse Shop at your local council-run Household Reuse and Recycling Centre
- Give unwanted items a second life by donating them via the Freegle or Freecycle websites
- If the item is broken, try repairing it – it’s good for the environment and it’ll save you money
