RECYCLE AT HOME = NO
Mobile phones cannot currently be recycled using your council’s recycling collection service.
RECYCLE OUT OF HOME = YES
Mobile phones can be recycled via electrical stores (use the Recycle Your Electricals website to locate your nearest collection point) and at your council-run Household Reuse and Recycling Centre.
BE A GREAT RECYCLER…
- Never put mobile phones or other electrical items items in the rubbish bin – they can cause fires
- The battery packs within mobile phones are classed as hazardous waste and must be kept separate from general waste
WASTE LESS…
- Donate mobile phones that are in good working condition to charities or charity shops – find your local charity shops on the Charity Retail Association website
- Donate mobile phones in good working condition to a Community Reuse Shop (find a collection point at your council-run Household Reuse and Recycling Centre)
- If your mobile phone is not working, try repairing it – find a local repair shop or see if there are any repair cafes in your area where you can learn new skills
- Trade in your old phone for a new one – companies like Mazuma, SellMyMobile and CompareMyMobile specialise in this
