RECYCLE AT HOME = NO
Lightbulbs cannot be recycled using your council’s recycling collection service. Older-style incandescent and halogen bulbs are not recyclable and should be put in your rubbish bin (they do not contain any harmful chemicals or components).
Fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent and LED lightbulbs do contain materials that are harmful to the environment and must not be put in your rubbish bin. These types of bulbs must be recycled (see below for details).
RECYCLE OUT OF HOME = YES
Fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent and LED lightbulbs can be recycled at your council-run Household Reuse and Recycling Centre. Many larger electrical and DIY stores also accept these types of bulbs for recycling. Use the postcode search tool on the Recycle Your Electricals website to find your nearest store.
Waste less…
- Invest in good quality LED light bulbs. They will last longer and will save you money in the long run
- Remember to turn off lights when rooms aren’t in use – they will last longer, which is good news for the environment and for your wallet
