Deep clean for Household Reuse and Recycling Centres – temporary closures required

7 August 2026 – Four Household Reuse and Recycling Centres (HRRCs) across the South London Waste Partnership region will temporarily close for one day each over the coming weeks to allow essential deep cleaning to take place.  

Access to Garth Road (Merton), Kimpton Park Way (Sutton), Villiers Road (Kingston) and Factory Lane (Croydon) will be restricted for one day to enable equipment and containers to be moved, allowing specialist cleaning appliances, including sweepers and jet washers, to reach all areas of the sites.     

The temporary closures will take place on the following days:

• Garth Road HRRC (Merton) – Wednesday 12 August (all day)
• Kimpton Park Way HRRC (Sutton) – Wednesday 12 August (all day)
• Villiers Road HRRC (Kingston) – Thursday 13 August (morning only)
• Factory Lane HRRC (Croydon) – Thursday 17 September (all day)

Three of the four sites (Garth Road, Kimpton Park Way and Villiers Road) operate booking systems. Residents attempting to book visits to these sites through their council’s website will find that no appointments are available on the relevant closure days, so are advised to book slots on alternative dates.  

Factory Lane HRRC does not operate a booking system; Croydon residents that use this site will be provided with advance notice of the closure and information will be shared via Croydon Council communication channels. Alternative HRRC facilities are available to Croydon residents at Purley Oaks (CR8 2BG) and Fishers Farm (CR0 0LB).

Andrea Keys, Partnership Director at the South London Waste Partnership, said: “Resident satisfaction with the HRRC sites is consistently high, and we are committed to maintaining that standard. The deep clean programme, delivered in partnership with Veolia which operates the HRRCs, is an important part of ensuring the sites remain safe, clean and welcoming for everyone who uses them.  We apologise for any inconvenience these temporary closures may cause, but they are necessary to allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently. We have carefully selected closure dates when visitor numbers are typically lower to minimise disruption to customers.”
