2026 Beddington ERF Open Days Confirmed

Ever wondered what happens to your non-recyclable waste after it’s been collected from your home? See for yourself by booking on to a tour of the Beddington Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). 

Viridor, operators of the Beddington ERF, have confirmed the dates of 11 Open Days taking place in 2026. These dates are reserved for residents of the South London Waste Partnership region (the London Boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton).

The Beddington ERF is a state-of-the-art facility where your non-recyclable waste is taken for treatment. In the past this waste would have been buried in a landfill site, but since 2019 the Beddington ERF has been treating this waste and using it to generate electricity – and lots of it: the facility produces enough energy to power itself plus 60,000 homes via the National Grid. 

By attending one of the 2026 Open Days, you will get the chance to meet the people who run the facility and have a small-group guided tour. Your tour will include a visit to the Control Room; from there you can see the huge bunker where waste is delivered, and the enormous grab cranes that lift the waste into the furnace. You’ll also see the high-tech emissions systems that capture, filter, clean and monitor the gases that are produced. Finally you’ll return to the Visitor Centre for an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Spaces are limited and bookings are made on a first-come-first-serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult (for safety reasons, children aged under eight years are not allowed on site).
